A Day In My Life

For the RA recruitment process for the upcoming year, the professional staff asked all of the current RAs if they would help out with advertising. I, of course, am very bad at checking my email, so I didn’t see this request for help. When I had my bi-weekly meeting with my boss, she brought up that I didn’t sign up to help with anything. I felt pretty bad, and after she explained what they still needed done, I signed up for two of them. One of them is just standard tabling. I’ll sit at a table and answer questions about being an RA and how to apply. The other is very interesting. I have to make a video about a day in my life as an RA. I guess I’m an RA all the time, but I don’t really do something for the job every day. I’m really a student most of the time here, and my life can be very boring to make a video out of. I don’t think a day in my life would be great advertising. It got me thinking, how am I going to film/edit this video to make people want to be an RA and have them apply for the job? I’m not really sure, but I wanted to do a breakdown of what a day in my life looks like for my blog first. Since today happens to be a Friday and is a pretty normal day, I thought it’d be a great day to break down for you all!
8 AM – I woke up pretty early today because I had to get ready for work. I haven’t shaved in a few days, and I need a clean face to look somewhat professional. I did my normal routine of shaving my face, taking a shower, and getting dressed. I shampooed and conditioned my hair, which made me realize I need another haircut.
8:45 AM – I left for work. I work on the Upper (ish) East Side, so I need to leave early to get to work 30 minutes before I open the doors to the store. I’m not quite used to getting dressed in a suit, so I like to allow myself some time to mess up my tie a few times.
9:55 AM – I clocked in for my shift and took down the curtains that block out our windows. The store officially opens at 10 on Fridays. There are usually customers waiting outside to get in, so the store gets reasonably busy for the first hour.
2 PM – I’ve been working for four hours at this point, and it’s time for my lunch break. I have an hour to get food and eat. I clocked out and walked to a nearby supermarket to get a hot meal. The last few shifts, I hadn’t eaten anything for lunch, but I got a bowl of chili today. It was pretty good, but not great. I made plans for tonight with Violet and went back to work. I clocked in a little earlier so I could relieve whoever took over for me.
6:55 PM – Time to put the curtains back up and close the store. I wait for a few minutes after seven to make sure all customers are out of the store. I go to security to check the cameras to see if anyone is left in the store. Then I go change back into my normal clothes and head home!
7:30 PM – I got on the train and headed to Fritz’s dorm to stop by and say hi. We got pizza and hung out for a little bit before I had to head back to write this post. I’ve been pretty busy when Fritz is free, and our schedules don’t align great, so I was glad to get to see him for at least a little bit.
9:15 PM – I’m writing my blog post and doing my drawing for the day. I’m very tired from standing all day. I’m watching The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime as I write this. I’m on season three and almost to season four.
9:30 PM – I’m going to head down to meet Violet to see the new Joker movie. I absolutely loved the first one, so I’m excited to see the new one. Of course, I’m excited to see Violet too!
Some point after the movie – We will probably walk back to my dorm and go to sleep, just so I can wake up and head back uptown to work!
Hopefully, this gave some kind of insight into what I did today. See, it isn’t very exciting. I hope you have a great weekend! Happy Friday, everyone!
