Last night I finally made the long voyage to Brooklyn. I've been there plenty of times in my life, but not since I got here in August. My parents used to live in Brooklyn and sisters were born there. I've heard so many cool things about the culture from commuter students in my classes, but I wanted to experience it for myself. Although it wasn't my idea to go and I was slightly opposed to the 10:30 departure, I was led by a couple new friends to a small jazz club in Bushwick. Jazz isn't really my thing or at least it wasn't. I loved it! It was amazing. The jam sessions after one in the morning were my favorite. They bring all walks of life together. We met a trumpet player from North London (who hates soccer) who is traveling the U.S sharing his talent. He smoked his joint and shared his wonderful story with us. The club was small and there was only standing room left. They had a lounge area upstairs, where I spent a majority of the night. They had bongos that I tried to play. I'm shit at all types of music. My mom tells me my singing could kill the eardrums of just about anyone. I got yelled at by the club owner for disturbing the musical masterpieces being played downstairs. At one point there was a lady singing and I thought she had the voice of an angel. It was beautiful. We finally departed the club at 1:30 am. That is way past my bed time. After making a few wrong stops on the subway, we split ways from the group and some of us decided to walk back to FIT from SoHo. It was quite a haul at two in the morning. We stopped at Bleecker Street Pizza before we got on the Uptown One Train. It was one of my favorite nights so far a college. Meeting new wonderful people is one of my favorite things to experience.
