As well documented on this blog over the past year, everyone knows I enjoy going to the movies. I don’t really do much for fun out and about in the city, but going to an AMC is a good night for me. Ever since I got my AMC A-List Membership, I wanted to make sure I got the most out of it that I could. Sadly, I haven’t come close to using every single movie pass. I don’t think going twelve times in a month would be sustainable. I would start hating the theater and seeing shit I didn’t need to see. I feel like I’ve dialed it in well enough where I see some things I wouldn’t normally see (or wait for them to go on streaming platforms) and I don’t go too much. I usually go to the AMC on 34th Street because it is closest to FIT. I can get from my dorm to the theater in less than 10 minutes. This semester, I have tried to branch out and not be so monogamous with my theaters. I want to try ’em all. It also helps that Violet comes to the movies with me. She makes me branch out and go to ones in between her and me. I still haven’t been to the AMC closest to her dorm, but we will sometime soon, I’d guess. My favorite AMC is the Lincoln Center. I don’t really know why. They don’t have plush rockers in every theater, but the magic is there. It is a wonderful place of love and joy. The reason I wanted to write a post about the AMC experience is because of how fucked up the AMC is in Times Square. If you are a sick fucking bastard, this place might be heaven for you. Okay, that is a bit dramatic. It isn’t that bad. I have a bias against Times Square, but hear me out. I’ve heard rumors over the past year that the AMC in Times Square isn’t great. I’m a firm believer that you can’t hate it until you try it (unless it is sour cream or cream cheese). I decided to head there last night for a 9:45 PM showing of Babygirl. If you don’t know what this movie is about, watch the trailer. Basically, Nicole Kidman is a CEO and bangs a hottie intern. That’s it! That is the fucking plot. If Nicole Kidman were Nick Kidman, he’d be getting fucked out the wazoo for this shit! Wild movie. I highly recommend going with your family. In all seriousness, I liked it. I don’t know if I need to see it again. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t a waste of time. Rewind. I get to the theater right at 9:45 PM. I snuck in some sweet treats, but no drink. I bought a humongous diabetes-causing soda cup (I used my rewards points to make it free). I climbed about 300 escalators and made it to the theater. When I walked in, my first thought was, “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” and my second thought was just to leave. The seats were muggy and gross. They were all stained with mysterious liquids. Not my scene—at least not anymore. I stole someone else’s seat in the back and set up. I was hoping no one was going to come claim my (their) seat. There were some close calls, but nothing serious. The movie began with Nicole Kidman riding a man with no warning, and there were really loud moans. I was concerned for Nicole. She sounded like she was wounded. About an hour into the movie, the lady sitting in front of me’s phone rang. Of course, as any person should never, ever do, she answered it. Total asshole move. She was talking obnoxiously loud, and another lady in the front wasn’t having it. “This isn’t a phone booth, it’s a movie theater!” and “Shut the fuck up!” were screamed initially. As things became more heated, more people got involved, and the lady in the front threw candy at the lady on the phone. I was hysterically laughing. You have an all-time great actress pretending to be a dog getting finger-banged by a young hottie, and your response is to answer the phone and throw candy? This is cinema, people! Anyway, never go to the Times Square AMC. It is for freaks and people who don’t appreciate theater etiquette. Happy Friday! Go see Babygirl with your family, friends, neighbors, cousins, dogs, and cats this weekend!
