Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I wanted to write something short and sweet about how I’m spending today. I’ve never truly understood why today was such a big deal. I’ve always seen Valentine’s Day as a “Hallmark Holiday.” I thought it was a day for people to go out and spend a lot of money to prove their love. I guess I’m not totally wrong, but once you see how much the day matters to your partner, then it makes sense. Violet lights up for Valentine’s Day. She gets so giddy over it. It is so cute! I failed terribly (as I usually do) last year. I’m very bad at planning for holidays. I tell myself I’ll go all out but leave it to the last minute and/or forget. This year, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to be a better boyfriend. The top thing on that list to improve was Valentine’s Day and her birthday. So, I think I did a pretty good job. I’m writing this before she sees anything, so hopefully, everything goes well. She mentioned a while ago that she wished we did more cutesy things. I didn’t really know what she meant, and she gave me the example of getting matching pajamas. I don’t wear pajamas, so I bought us matching really cute Paddington Bear sweatshirts. It works out perfectly because the new Paddington in Peru comes out tonight, and we are going to see it after dinner. We are getting Indian food and then going back to my dorm so I can give her the sweatshirt. I messed up on her last birthday by buying her Lego flowers without confirming which ones with her family. For Valentine’s Day, I decided to buy her a whole Lego greenhouse. I hate buying real flowers because they die. She mentioned she thought the set was really cute, and I love buying Legos, so it works for both of us. I bought her a ton of Oreo cookies too because she’s vegan right now. Who knew Oreos were accidentally vegan? She was so excited when she found that out. I bought them at the dining hall and probably got way too many. I’m really excited for tonight. I can’t wait to see her smile (hopefully) when I shower her with all my gifts. I’m so bad at holidays, but I am working on it! I love you so much, Vi! Happy Friday and long weekend! Enjoy your two “holidays”!
