Heaven To Me

Background Info:

Have you listened to Tyler, The Creator's Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale? It came out almost a year ago now and is just the deluxe edition of his 2021 album,Call Me If You Get Lost. On this deluxe version, there is a song called "Heaven To Me". The song is basically just Tyler explaining the simple pleasures and what he wants for later in his life. He's explaining what his idea of a heavenly life is. I write on this blog a lot about what I want for my life. I think if you have only read a few posts here and there, you still see that I talk about the simple pleasures of my life and what I want in my future. I don’t base this whole blog on this song, but I love the idea of explaining my perfect life. Today’s post will be just that, just not in a rap format.

Heaven To Me:

I’m living in New York City with the love of my life. We walk around the West Village and eat whatever we want without caring about the price or health issues. I’ll stop by my favorite bakeries and get an extra croissant because I can. I’ll be trying to run home just to hug my two kids and hear about their day, even though they are in kindergarten and can barely say their ABCs. I’ll make them grilled cheeses on a panini press, using Heidelberg peasant bread and some sort of ethically sourced cheddar cheese. They’ll make fun of me for putting ketchup on my plate and dipping my sandwich in it. “Ewww Dada! Gross!”. I’ll hug and kiss my wife while I’m cleaning up the mess I made in the kitchen. I’ll decide that I want to watch a movie at the AMC theater on 34th street and I’ll have a date night with my wife, while Grandpa Smokes builds pillow forts with the kids. We’ll watch the movie and walk home in the rain, while I complain about the artistic direction of a perfectly fine romantic comedy. I’ll walk into my kids' super cool bedroom and kiss them on the forehead after they are already asleep and say “I love you, goodnight! Sleep tight and don’t let the bedbugs bite!”. I’ll go to sleep in my bed looking forward to the next day. I’ll wake up and go to work. I’ll work with intelligent, creative, and talkative people that know how to get shit done. I’ll have crayons drawn all over my studio wall from when it was “Bring The Kids To Work Day”. I’ll design what I want to design and I’ll make what I want to make. People of all walks of life will stop by to visit and share their story. The studio will play my playlist of only a hundred songs on repeat and I’ll dance around making sure everyone knows that the songs are good. I’ll sing along with my shitty singing voice and pretend I'm Celine Dion. My official title will be Creative Director and Dad. I’ll take my kids scootering down the West Side Highway after work to the carousel by Pier 62. Of course, I’ll also take a ride and pretend I'm actually riding a horse up and down, up and down and on and on. I’ll take my kids to get ice cream and hear them rave about how fun the carousel was. We’ll head back home, and I’ll try to read the stories my wife reads to them. They know I’m bad at reading, but they bear with me. My wife gets home from work and walks in on me dressed as a princess because my daughter had to have princess tea time. I’ll have face paint on, and I’ll be smiling so wide that you can’t even see my eyes. Heaven to me is having a family. I want everyone to be there. Cool aunt Phoebe and fun auntie Bella will team up to spoil my kids. My mom will have to teach me how to hold a baby properly among many other things. She’ll take them to music festivals and museums to make sure I’m not rotting their brains with Lana Del Rey and Baby Keem. Keegan will take them on weekend trips to the Adirondacks to hike with them, and I’ll slug behind with a baby bjorn on my chest. I want my kids to have the amazing childhood I had. I want them to be loved and cherished. I want to love my wife and treat her with whatever I can. I want to become a grandpa and take my grandchildren to play golf. This sounds like heaven to me.
