I Hate Artificial Intelligence

I should start this post by mentioning, I know nothing about AI. AI is starting to become way too prevalent in my day-to-day discussions in class. I know it's a newer thing and it's still in developing stages, but I can't help but hate it. I heard about AI in those Microsoft advertisements where they recreated buildings from the Roman Empire. I remember IBM's Watson being at Tom Watson's last Master's Tournament too, but I thought it was a big dumb black box.The first time I really considered AI as a real thing, accessible to me, was this past year in English class with Mrs. Sciallo. We had a class wide discussion about ChatGPT and its uses. I didn't realize I could look it up on my computer, make an account and start asking it to do my homework. By the way, I won't pretend that I haven't used AI to do my homework. I have. It can be a useful tool in a time crunch, but I still hate it and there is one simple reason. It's even in the name! ARTIFICIAL! I'm not a big fan of the fact that AI might be able to make human thinking obsolete. I think human interaction is beyond important to our human experience. Developing technology that thinks for us and designs for us is inherently wrong. We are human for a reason. We make mistakes for a reason. We test multiple different ideas until we find the best one for a reason. There are multiple designers that plug their ideas into AI, generate images, and then they turn whatever the AI generated into a physical product. I understand this process, but I do not like it. I like the fact that people have to come up with their own ideas. I like the fact people have to bounce ideas back and forth to find the best option. I like people telling their own stories, instead of having something generate it for them. I know nobody asked, but that is my opinion. Happy Wednesday!
