I Have The Super Bowl Blues

I have the Super Bowl blues. Not because the Chiefs won. Not because the 49ers lost. I have the Super Bowl blues because I have to wait another whole year for another Super Bowl. I love Super Bowl Sunday. It is in my top ten favorite days of the year. Christmas, Master’s Sunday, The Open Sunday, and The US Open Sunday are the only days I love more than the Super Bowl. I love it more than my birthday and more than Thanksgiving. Some years the Super Bowl sucks and is extremely boring. I leave my living room disappointed and begging for more. This year was nothing short of entertaining, but I still feel an empty football-sized void in my heart. There is just something about watching sports that makes me feel a really weird feeling. I get nervous. I get excited. I jump up and down complaining. The emotional rollercoaster of sports always keeps me coming back for more. I know a lot of people would tell you golf is not a sport, fine whatever, have your own opinions. If you were as invested in the golf world as I am, you’d understand the power of the stories and the way it brings out so many emotions. A great example was last year’s US Open at Los Angeles Country Club. Three holes to play and my favorite player is only one back. He ends up falling short and looks so defeated after nine years since he last won a major. That's fucking heartbreak. It was just brutal. I was hooting and hollering. I was running around the room dapping up everyone if he made a birdie. I even almost shed a tear when it was over. I hate having to wait another year for these events, but that makes them so special. Whether they are blowout victories and disappointing or tight games with multiple last quarter lead changes, they are my favorite days of the year. I get to hang out with my dad or even my whole family and just have fun. I can't wait to get my kids into sports so we can go to games and I can make them hardcore Kevin Durant fans just like me. This Super Bowl I originally had plans in the city to host a Super Bowl Party in my dorm room. The plans ended up falling through at the last minute and my dad just happened to call me asking me to watch the big game with him. Of course I told him “Give me a second!” at first, but I finally ended up on the Amtrak train to Albany. I got to see Violet and be at home for one of my favorite days of the year, with the people I love the most. It was a great game. I was shitting myself the whole time. I’ll be fully honest and I wanted the 49ers to win. I love Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffery. You never doubt a man named Brandon Ayuik too! I told my friends from Missouri, roughly forty minutes from Kansas City, that I thought the Chiefs would win, but I didn’t want them to. I guess you just can’t say no to Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. You have to recognize greatness. I remember loving when the Patriots were winning all the time. I usually love a dominant force in sports. It almost always makes you a winner. That's an awesome bandwagon tactic by the way. I just can’t root for the Chiefs. Same thing with someone like Scottie Scheffler. I loved it that Tiger Woods won everything, but when Scottie looks dominant, I hate it! God are they great though! Just remember who beat Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl three years ago, Tom Brady, baby! Happy Wednesday!
