I Miss The Old Instagram

Instagram’s downfall needs to be studied. I used to think Instagram was by far the best social media platform. I would’ve even ventured to say that it wasn’t even a close race. Instagram was so far beyond number two, it wasn’t fair. Times have changed and I’m seriously disappointed by my once-favorite. Instagram has changed dramatically, and now I can’t stand it. They started trying to be something they weren’t. That is where it all came crashing down. The reason things become so popular is that they are new and different. Instagram was new and different, but they started trying to steal what other platforms did. This made them the same, not different. That broke them. I can’t open my Instagram without thinking I’m on TikTok. I know people love Instagram Reels, but to be honest, it is just TikTok leftovers. What about Threads? The X (Twitter) knockoff? They tried to redo their whole instant messaging system to try and be Snapchat too. I think Instagram tried to become an everything destination and lost sight of itself in the process. One of my least favorite changes made is the homepage. I feel like I never see people I know anymore. I know people have started to post less, but all I get is recommended bullshit. I miss when people posted all the time, not just every three months (I’m guilty of this). I miss jumping on Instagram to see what my friends did on their spring break through their posts. Now, I look at Snapchat or Tiktok. I’ve talked to some of my friends about all these changes. Everyone I have asked agrees, we all want the Instagram of the past. I’m assuming we aren’t the only people either. I use Instagram the most still because it is the best way to reach a mass audience at once. Post a story and a decent amount of people see it. It’s pretty helpful, especially for my blogs. This doesn’t change what we once had. I hope we get to a point where we are all posting again and I’ll only see what I want to see, not a bunch of random shit. Less and less carbon copies of other apps. Maybe even a reduction of advertisements on the platform if that isn't too much to ask for? I also wish more people I know would post on X (Twitter). I think that would be such a fun thing to see. People tweeting out funny shit or just saying their opinion on something would be nice. Anyway, I miss you, old Instagram. Happy Monday!
