Joining The Military

Although the title of this post suggests that I am joining the military, I am most definitely not. I would be a downgrade for our great nation’s ultimate defense force. I have no qualities that the US military wants. I’m not strong or fast, I’m not strategic, I’m not patient, I’m not terribly good at following orders, and most importantly, I’m not selfless. I think over the last few years, people have begun to not appreciate our military as much as they should. I’ve heard people say it’s unnecessary. I’ve heard people say it’s a waste of money. While I’m not completely sure how much we spend on our military, I do believe it is one of the most important things to our country. Joining the military is the so honorable. I try not to get involved with politics or ongoing conflicts, but if Americans start getting sent out and die in combat, it is one of the most selfless things a person can do. I have the utmost respect for anyone risking their lives for the benefit of their country. If there were American citizens fighting in Gaza, I think I’d care a lot more. The military gets a bad look sometimes, but an American dying for our country has to be something we should all gather for. The military is full of heroes. I think another group of people who get the short end of the stick are the cops. Abolish the cops! Defund the police! Why the fuck would we do that? I understand that there are bad cops. I understand there are racist cops. I don’t think that means we get rid of them completely. That’d turn the world into a mess. One of the things I’ve realized in the city is that there are tons of cops who are petty bitches. Cops handing out tickets has to be the dumbest thing and the biggest waste of time. There are important crimes to deal with, and you are getting mad at an old lady for parking an extra hour? That’s ridiculous to me. Another thing I’ve realized living in the city is that there are some really great cops who are just trying to do their job. I think it’s hard for people to separate these two entities. I understand how people group them together. I talked to some of the cops at the protests last week, and some of them said they just wanted to get home safe and see their families. They stand there getting yelled at by some guy wearing a shirt saying “abolish the police” and putting a camera directly in their face. That’s messed up. They are just trying to do their jobs and go home. Stop tormenting the poor people. They don’t want to be there, but they chose to serve the city. I will say they don’t have to be so aggressive when arresting people. I saw videos of them arresting students, and it was totally unnecessary. Peaceful people getting thrown to the ground? Why? A lot of people say one of my biggest issues is that I assume things and group people together. Why are you grouping all cops together and assuming they are all bad? I think there are awful, terrible cops and respectable, life-saving cops. People who serve and protect our country and cities deserve more! Happy Monday!
