My Beef With Celebrity Styling

I know you must be surprised to see this blog post before 11:00 PM. I am just as, if not more, surprised. Today is a very busy day, so I am trying to get this post done during my office hours. This post is something that I’ve been thinking about for a long time. There is a specific profession that I cannot stand! That doesn’t mean I cannot stand the people—most of the people I know who want to go into this field are super nice and talented. I hate the profession of celebrity personal stylists! I can’t hold it in anymore! A lot of people here at FIT say they want to go into celebrity personal styling, and I totally understand it. You get to work with the glitz and the glamour. You meet cool people, and you get to say that you picked out their outfit. This job isn’t easy. I have friends who post what their days look like, and it seems exhausting. Lots of coordinating, running around, and stress. I have tons of respect for those who do it. My reason for hating it so much is because it makes celebrities lazy. What you wear shows off your personality. If someone else comes up with the look, then it isn’t your personality. I’m sure when they are getting dressed by someone, the celebrities help pick stuff they are comfortable with and what they like. There is no way it isn’t a collaborative process. I just want to see what celebrities do all on their own. I’m sure someone you think is super stylish starts looking like a little boy getting himself ready for the first time. I have no doubt about that. I had a class last spring, and we had a project on fashion icons. The professor wouldn’t let us pick someone contemporary because he didn’t want to see a stylist’s work. He wanted to see what people did on their own. I agree! The thing I love about celebrities is that they are people too. Normal people don’t have stylists. It creates a disconnect for me. I don’t want that. I want to feel like they are just like me and inspire me to be great. That sounds fucking cheesy as shit, but you know what I mean. If I have to get up and get dressed myself, I want Timothee Chalamet (or whoever, just an example!) to as well. I want to see where their minds take them. There are tons of these stylists who are super talented, and I feel bad that I want their job to disappear. No diss on Jack Black or Adam Sandler, but maybe they should get a personal stylist. I would love to shadow a big-time celebrity stylist to see all the work that goes in on their side, but as well as how much the celebrities themselves put in. It might change my thoughts, but for now, I want more personality! I instantly like a celebrity more if they are relatable. I'm guessing many people feel the same. Happy Wednesday everyone!
