I can’t believe it’s been a year since I moved into college for the first time. Technically, today is a week short of a full year, but you know what I meant. It was an extremely fast year. I blinked, and I’m back at FIT, moving in again. This year I moved in early because I am an RA. I have to get my floor all set up for the freshmen to move in. They get here this upcoming weekend. I keep thinking of them as younglings, but they are the same age as Violet and Charlie. Today was my first day of training. It was a pretty long day, and I have the same thing for the next two weeks. I knew coming back here would be hard for me. I’ve never been a big fan of change. Getting used to where I was living last year took a few weeks, but I loved it so much by the end of the year. Now, I’m back where I started and need to get used to all the differences. Last year, I was in an apartment-style dorm on the top floor. I had my own kitchen and bathroom. This year, I have no kitchen and have to use a communal bathroom. I’m not a big fan of taking a dump in public, and now every dump I take is public. I walk in the hallway with my desperately needed wet wipes in hand; how embarrassing is that? Once the students move in and see me sadly carrying wet wipes to the bathroom every day, how are they going to take me seriously? I also had a shower last year. I could take long, steamy showers and walk around naked if I wanted to, and I guess if Fritz wasn’t there. Now, I have to do the walk of shame back from the communal showers. There is definitely no walking around naked. It wasn’t a part of training yet, but I’m assuming that is frowned upon. My room is on a much lower floor now too. I was on the top floor last year and now I’m on floor seven. If I walked around naked, people in the classrooms would also see the unpleasant view. I have started to set up my room how I want it. We are ordering some extra furniture just to fill up the space a little more and to make it comfortable for guests. I’m getting a futon and some extra tables. The RA that lived here last year, who moved up to my old floor, gifted me a small mini-fridge. Thank you, Austin! The ethernet port doesn’t work yet, but hopefully, I can talk to IT and get it fixed. I have hope for this room! I always see the negative, but I’m trying my best to see past it. It’ll be a different year, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be bad. Happy Monday, everyone!
