Not Funny!

Have you ever seen John Mulaney do his Mick Jagger during an SNL table read impression? It’s pretty good—he says, “Not Funnayyyyy” in an English accent. Makes me laugh every time. I think I need to write about what everyone is thinking. Why don’t they make funny comedy movies anymore? What the fuck are we doing here? I heard a rumor on the street that Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon’s new movie is the closest thing we’ve gotten to 2000-2010s level comedies again. Whoever wrote or said that was smoking the devil’s lettuce while watching this movie. I love both Will and Reese so much, but this movie fell so flat for me. I think Will’s daughter in the movie (Geraldine Viswanathan) is just terrible. She was probably told she was funny in high school by her unfunny friends. Someone needs to fix her career path after this movie. This feels a bit harsh. I’m sorry. No, actually, I’m only partly sorry. I’m mad about how unfunny she is. Will Ferrell carried this movie on his alligator-bitten shoulders. If you haven’t watched this so-called comedy movie yet, I don’t think you should waste your time. I think if you’re a fan of either Will or Reese, you may as well watch to support them, but you may suffer. So, why aren’t movies funny anymore? I do think there are still some funny movies. Once in a while, I’ll go to the theater, and a movie will make me laugh, but there aren’t any raunchy comedies left. People are too scared! They don’t want to say crazy shit anymore. Tropic Thunder could never exist today, and that makes me sad. I’ve seen someone say that the reason they don’t make comedies anymore is because studios are worried they won’t make any money. They just want to license movies and make remakes to be safe. I hate that reasoning too. Remakes are usually awful (Dune I and Dune II, I’m not talking about you, don’t worry). I wish someone would make another Step Brothers or Zoolander or even maybe a risky one like Tropic Thunder again. I know it’s possible. People still laugh. I was laughing all day today at work. They need to make movies funny again because right now, they are NOT FUNNAYYYYY. Honestly, I think everyone should sit back and laugh a little. Medicine, baby!
