Most TV shows I watch are usually what I call background shows. These are just shows that I can play in the background while I paint, do homework or play Xbox. They are entertaining and funny but don’t take a lot of thought. Shows like Friends or Big Bang Theory are good examples. I also like to call them “Happy Shows”. I don’t like shows that take a lot of thought because I blank out and have to keep rewinding incase I miss something. Recently, I have found the perfect thought provoking TV show. My sister, Phoebe, has been telling me how good Succession is for awhile now and I’ve just let her recommendation go in one ear and out the other. After the Golden Globe and Emmy’s dominance Succession put on these past few weeks I caved. I started on a mission. I love this show. Each episode is basically an hour long movie and each season is a perfect culmination of a continuous story line. The reason I love this show so much is the characters. The characters are so fucking well written. They interact perfectly. They have twists and bends you won’t see coming. Although, each character is uniquely consistent. The acting is fucking amazing too. I highly recommend you watch a few episodes to see if you like it. It definitely takes an episode or two to get used to, but it is so worth it. Every part of production is perfect. The fashion the characters wear, the set design and filming locations, the unique way of filming, it is all so fucking good. I’m surprised to say that I really enjoy the use of observational cinematography. I thought I would hate it, but the whole show is basically observing this shit show of a family. The use of an observational technique makes you feel more immersed and actually observing the family. Again,I highly suggest this show to you. I’m not quite finished with it but I can’t stop! Happy Monday!
