The Best Part Of Working

This break has gone by pretty damn fast. I remember thinking that a month, no matter how it was spent, would feel like a long time. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I got home around 11:00 PM last night, and it’s sadly the last time I’ll be coming home for this break. I’ve enjoyed going back and forth to the city way more than I thought I would. It’s been a bit of a challenge, but it was well worth it. I got the best of both worlds—I got to keep my job, and I got to see my hometown friends a bit. I think breaks are supposed to be all about relaxing, which I didn’t get to do a ton of. That’s okay. Grind never stops. I’m proud of myself for keeping it going through all of this. I think if I had chosen to stay in the city all break, I would’ve been miserable. And if I had stayed home all break, I know I would have regretted giving up my job way too much. I love my job, and that’s kind of what this post will be about! Obviously, standing still and opening doors for eight hours a day isn’t terribly fun. I love having the opportunity to talk to so many people, but it can be hard. The best part of my job, though, is really the people I work with. I walked into Ralph Lauren worried that the workers would be a little snooty. If you walk into the place, you’d kind of know what I mean. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Ever since I started working, everyone has been so great to me. I quietly walked into the break room on my first day and expected no one to say anything. People immediately came up to me and introduced themselves. They asked me about myself, gave me tips, and welcomed me with open arms. I guess that’s what you should expect, but it meant a lot to me. Over the past four months, I’ve grown to get along with my coworkers really well. I like asking them questions, which hopefully doesn’t annoy them too much. Everyone is so interesting and has a good story to tell. I’m surprised I haven’t gotten in trouble for talking too much. This is my first real-world job. Working at the country club, Nicoletta’s, or Barnyard Swing, I was always with people I knew from either school or around town. This is my first experience working an “adult” job with adults. Have you ever seen that clip of Jaden Smith saying he wants to have mature conversations with his friends? He got a lot of shit for it, but I get why he said it. Growing up playing so much golf with grown-ups made me really like being around them. I like talking to adults. There’s so much to learn. On Saturday night, to celebrate the end of the holiday season, a bunch of my coworkers went out to get tacos and play games at Dave & Buster’s. I was so happy to be invited and get to know some people from other floors better. I don’t know why, but getting invited to stuff makes me really happy. It’s a nice compliment. I found out that I’m terrible at arcade games. I’m so not coordinated. Dance Dance Revolution is near impossible! I love my coworkers (again, shout-out Andre!). Coming home makes going back to work hard, but this weekend was a reminder of why it is so worth it. I’m excited to continue my time at Ralph Lauren—hopefully for a long time. Happy Monday, everyone!
